In response to a congressional request, the National Research Council (NRC) established the Committee on Improving Cybersecurity Research in the United States. Sponsored in part by DHS S&T, the committee has produced a report that was published in final form in October 2007. The report, which presents a strategy for cybersecurity research at the start of the 21st century, is made available by DHS for free download here (PDF, 1.7MB). Printed copies of the report are available for purchase at The National Academies Press.
Members of the INFOSEC Research Council (IRC) are the major sponsors of information security research within the U.S. Government. In 2005, the IRC published a new revision of its Hard Problem List, which defines desirable research topics by identifying a set of key problems from the Government perspective and in the context of IRC member missions. The IRC Hard Problem List is available for free download here (PDF, 0.3MB).
The Cyber Security R&D Center was established by the Department of Homeland Security in 2004 to develop security technology for protection of the U.S. cyber infrastructure. The Center conducts its work through partnerships between government and private industry, the venture capital community, and the research community.
