Emerging Security Technology Forum

The Department of Homeland Security and its Cyber Security R&D Center will host the Emerging Security Technology Forum at SRI International facilities in Arlington , Virginia , on April 13-14, 2005 . The Forum is an opportunity for small to medium information security vendors to demonstrate emerging information security technologies that defend against distributed denial of service (DDoS) and worm attacks to government technologists, technical managers, and others responsible for incorporating new technologies into government infrastructure.

Purpose

The purpose of the Emerging Security Technology Forum is to help secure our nation's cyber infrastructure by identifying new sources of security technology in small and medium-sized commercial companies that can fill gaps in our current critical information infrastructure.

Background

Cyber security attacks on private- and public-sector networks are growing in volume and sophistication. The cost of these attacks in lost productivity, theft, and possibly, in the future, human lives, is immeasurable and pervades every sector of industry and concerns every branch of the U.S. Government. The attackers are growing in organization and hostility. The U.S. Government seeks to build relationships with innovative security technology companies that can help build a defense against these threats with new, scalable products that address a variety of platforms, including hardware, software, and networks.

Format

This is the first in a series of Forums sponsored by the DHS Science & Technology Directorate to bring together senior and mid-level technology managers from many branches of the government and small companies that typically do not have exposure to such customers. Each selected company will present a 20-minute overview of the company and technology before the entire audience in a large conference room, and will then break out into private rooms for more in-depth demonstrations of the company's technologies before smaller groups of government-only attendees. The private break-out sessions will encourage productive business conversations between the government representatives and the company executives, and may include proprietary information about the company's technology and business strategy.

Call for Submissions

Vendors will be selected based on submissions provided to, and reviewed by, the DHS and will reflect a breadth of solutions for preventing and repairing hostile cyber security attacks that include DDoS, worms, and botnets. These technologies may have been developed via public or private sponsorship or funding.

Selected vendors will be trained by SRI and the DHS on how to successfully present to the government attendees and how to do business with government customers. SRI International will not be participating in the review process.
